Petrovietnam’s Energy Journey returned to the cradle of Vietnam’s oil and gas industry to mark 45 years since the first industrial gas production from the Tien Hai C field, honoring previous generations and passing on the industry’s traditions.
(PetroTimes) – The event took place in an area regarded as the “cradle” of Vietnam’s oil and gas industry, where Well 61 once awakened the energy potential beneath the land and opened a decades-long journey of steady development for Petrovietnam.
On the morning of April 19, in Tran Lam Ward, Hung Yen Province (formerly Thai Binh City), Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) organized the Energy Journey program to mark the 45th anniversary of the first industrial gas production from the Tien Hai C field (April 19, 1981 - April 19, 2026).
The event was more than a commemorative activity. It was an occasion to pay tribute to history, educate younger generations about tradition and spread the core cultural values of oil and gas workers.
Participants included Mr. Tran Quang Dung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Petrovietnam Party Committee; Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, Member of the Party Executive Committee and Member of the Petrovietnam Members’ Council; former Petrovietnam General Director Tran Ngoc Canh; former Chairman of the Members’ Council and former General Director Phung Dinh Thuc; former Vice Chairman of the Petrovietnam Board Hoang Xuan Hung, Head of the Group Retiree Liaison Committee; Labor Hero Dr. Nguyen Hung Dung, former Member of the Members’ Council and Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Petroleum Association; and former Member of the Petrovietnam Members’ Council Dinh Van Son.
The program was also attended by Mr. Pham Quang Dung, Member of the Standing Committee, Chief of the Party Committee Office and Chairman of the Petrovietnam Veterans Association, who led the working delegation; Mr. Pham Dang An, Secretary of the Petrovietnam Youth Union; Mr. Dang Van Hue, Chairman of the Trade Union of Petrovietnam’s Management and Administration Division; Mr. Le Quang Toan, Chairman of the Veterans Association of the Management and Administration Division; current and former Petrovietnam officials; and representatives of Tran Lam Ward authorities.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Pham Quang Dung emphasized that returning to Hung Yen was not only about revisiting a historic milestone, but also about reaffirming the value of foundations built by the intelligence, courage and resilience of previous generations. From Well 61 and the first gas flow, an industry was formed and gradually became an important pillar of the economy and national energy security.
He expressed the hope that previous generations would continue to openly share their experience and pass their passion to younger people. The combination of the wisdom and courage of earlier generations with the aspirations and energy of today’s workforce would create sustainable internal strength for Petrovietnam in a new period of development.
During the program, the delegation offered incense in memory of President Ho Chi Minh and visited the Red River Delta Petroleum Memorial Site, one of the industry’s important historical addresses preserving valuable artifacts and documents about its formation and development. The images, memorabilia and stories recalled not only a difficult period, but also the pride of overcoming shortages to search for and develop energy resources for the country.
A highlight of the program was an intergenerational exchange. Historical witnesses shared sincere and powerful stories about the early search for oil and gas during wartime and severe shortages. They recalled self-reliance, resilience and determination in the face of hardship – values that have become part of the “DNA” of oil and gas workers.
Alongside tribute activities, the program also spread humanitarian values through local social-welfare activities: presenting gifts to the authorities and people of Tran Lam Ward, awarding scholarships worth VND 50 million to disadvantaged students who had overcome hardship, and visiting and encouraging employees of Thai Binh PSC.
Forty-five years have passed since the first commercial gas flow, but the journey continues. From the cradle of Tien Hai, Thai Binh – now Dong Chau Commune, Hung Yen – the flame of faith, aspiration and responsibility continues to be passed down and strengthened through generations, becoming motivation for Petrovietnam to move forward, maintain its key role in national energy security and contribute to the country’s development.
